This piece to so much longer than I expected but am finally relieved its now complete and can now focus 100% on my next project.

While making this hall table I have learned so much, all the techniques I used on this piece were new to me, for example the laminating of the maple legs. Once I resawed the laminates and then thicknessed them on a thickness sander. Next I had to plane a slight camber on to the centre of the so the edges will pull up when glued up. Next was to clean the legs up on the surface planer the on the thicknesser. I had to cut the legs to length and to the correct angles by mounting them to a board on a dimension saw.

The next main aspect of this project was the veneering; I had to join veneers which were 1.5 meters long which I found a little bit tricky. Once they were joined gluing them wasn’t a problem. I used a large press to apply the pressure when gluing.

Bending and capping the end s of the metal legs where to difficult really, if there were any gaps they were just filled by weld.

Next I had to notch the metal legs in to the wooden legs, which came with great difficulty at first. Originally I started cutting them by hand but later I found a router bit which was pretty much the right size.

Once everything was made I sprayed the metal components gray and sanded all the wooden components to 240 grit and the sprayed with a lacquer.

Professional quality photos will be coming soon.
