Cubic Container Project

So I've just started my 3rd year of uni studying furniture design and craft and i am deep in to our first project.
Our first project was to design and make a cubic container which is 150mm cubed which represents as an individual. I felt this was a quite a personal project so i wanted the piece to be a serious piece. 
I feel that i am shy person on the outside but on the inside i am more of a vibrant person. So i wanted the piece to have elements or 'breaking through' or 'breaking out'
I sketched down a few ideas and then began to mock them up, the image above was one of my favorite early ideas but i wasn't 100% on how i felt about it. After a design critique my tutor felt that he couldn't see the resemblance of the elements on the box to my personality, He felt like the sharp and aggressive lines may make people think i come across as aggressive person. 
The first idea developed in to a table lamp with the look of a box being ripped and a light shining and breaking through.
The box is made from MDF and frosted perspex with the light diffusing when it shines though.
Although i am not continuing with this idea for this project i feel like i could develop this idea in to a product of sorts.
